In 2008, 6 million Americans told the US Census that they did not vote because they did not know how to register of they missed their state’s voter registration deadline. In 2012, we want to make sure no American is left out. National Voter Registration Day is a coordinated volunteer, technology and media efforts to create widespread awareness of voter registration opportunities.
The League of Women Voters Johnson County will be registering voters on the pedestrian mall on Sept. 25 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM in honor of National Voter Registration Day. In the case of rain, the event will be at the Iowa City Public Library.
In addition to the League’s efforts, members of the Tau Psi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will be registering voters at the Waterfront Hy-Vee from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
